Job Title: Irish Sign Language/English Interpreter x 2 – part time 20 hours per week
Reporting to: HR Coordinator
Location: Locations associated with all of the operations under CIDP
Salary: Dependent on experience
Contract duration: One year fixed term
Summary:
The Catholic Institute for Deaf People (CIDP) are seeking a Irish Sign Language/English Interpreters to provide a high standard of interpreting across a number of activities across its services. The Interpreters will be part of a team, the aims of which are to ensure that communication in ISL and English is effective across the organisation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Below are the key areas of responsibility;
- Support CIDP staff, the people living in St Joseph’s House and boarders through effective interpretation of ISL and English
- Provide interpretation support across a range of activities in CIDP including but not limited to;
- Meetings
- Training workshops
- Phone calls
- Recruitment processes
- Incidents in relation to safeguarding of adults and children
- Provide relevant information and advice relating to interpreting practice
- Be proactive in raising the awareness of the role of interpreters within CIDP ensuring the best access and experience of an interpreted interaction
- Support CIDP in producing communication material and input into policies where appropriate
- Translation of English based documents into ISL
- Keep up to date with professional mandatory training and CPD, participating in staff development courses as appropriate
- Keep abreast with relevant current interpreting developments
- Work with ISL interpreters from external sources where required
- Work with staff from other agencies where required
- Design and implement staff development activities, i.e. how to work with an interpreter, translations issues
- Provide support to staff, people living in St Joseph’s House and boarders with written documentation
Other duties
- Attend relevant internal and external meetings/training as required
- Participate in internal supervision and performance management process
- To adhere to all CIDP policies and procedures

Key Requirements:
Qualifications/Requirements
- Qualification from the Centre for Deaf Studies or equivalent
- Previous accreditation through SLIS or equivalent
- Full membership of the Council of Irish Sign Language Interpreters
Experience
- Previous experience of working with Deaf people within the Community and business environment
- Previous experience of working with young Deaf people/students
- Previous experience of working with older Deaf adults
- Previous experience of translation between ISL and written English
Skills
- Ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team and be self-motivated
- Ability to work under pressure with a varied group of people
- Good personal organisational and time management skills
- Ability to use Microsoft packages and video cameras
- Ability to evaluate how effective your practice is using feedback from colleagues
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding and respecting confidentiality
- Have a flexible approach to work
