The Archbishop Diarmuid Martin said Mass in Deaf Village Ireland at 6pm and over 200 people attended this lovely event. After the mass everyone enjoyed tea and snacks, about another 200 people came later from the Deaf community with 70 delegates from 27 different countries.
The delegates visited the Deaf Heritage Centre first before they came into Deaf Village Ireland. The atmosphere was electric and the Irish Deaf Folk had their international costumes on, encouraging everyone to dance in the atrium. The Irish Deaf folks danced representing each country, out of respect for the visitors. The manager of Deaf Village Ireland Sylvia made a welcome speech to all and introduced Colin Allen the President of the World Federation of the Deaf. Colin spoke how he was honoured to be asked to open Deaf Village Ireland in March but that he was unable to attend the launch as Colin is from Australia. Colin spoke about our beautiful facilities here in the Village. All of the delegates were astonished with Deaf Village Ireland. Deaf Village Ireland has made a big impression of what has been achieved for Deaf people of Ireland.

We set a blue print for others to follow and have provided aspiration to the Deaf Europeans to believe that their dream to have a Village in their country can actually be a reality!
